At the last meeting, members paid tribute to Roy Slack of Leycester Road, who is leaving the Club after 26 years of service in various roles. Mr Slack is moving to Somerset to be near his daughter.
Roy started the Walking Group in the Club and organised a number of walking holidays in the UK and Europe for members and their wives.
Ken Ackroyd has arranged a trip to the Avro Museum at Woodford on 16th May, while Jim Flett’s proposed outing to the Gladstone Library has had to be postponed. Instead, he has arranged a trip to Norton Priory, which last year opened a new visitor centre and museum. The visit on 4th July will cover the Museum and Priory in the morning, with the walled garden in the afternoon.
Dr Simon la Frenais gave an interesting talk on Charles Darwin and his 5 year voyage on the Beagle which led  to his famous book “On The Origin of Species by Means of Natural Selection”.
