Members got the “bird” in more ways than one at the last meeting when Val and Dave Chant gave a talk on falconry. Not only did the Chants give a history of the sport they also brought actual hawks, falcons and owls with them to the surprise of the members., some of whom were brave enough to handle the birds.
The club was notified of the sudden death of Joe Cunningham, who joined the club in 1987 and was Chairman in 1998/99. He was recovering from hospital treatment at a convalescent home when he had a relapse.
The proposed  Club trip along the Manchester Ship Canal in the autumn has had to be cancelled  and in its place there will be a visit to Bramhall Hall, Stockport, on Tuesday, 26 September. The Hall , recently refurbished, is one of the finest Black and White Tudor mansions in Cheshire.
Don Johnson announced that the annual British Heart Foundation lunch will be held on Sunday 30 July at the Vale Royal Abbey in Whitegate.
