Visits to Gawsworth  Open Air Theatre and Norton  Priory in Runcorn by members and their guests were reported at the last meeting of the Club. Details were also given of a proposed visit to Bramhall Hall in Stockport on  26 September. The Hall has recently undergone a £1.6m refurbishment.
The club’s bowls team  continue their up and down season losing to Tatton Probus and Macclesfield 1 but defeating Weaver Probus. The team have won five matches so far this but have lost 10.
Stephen Dean gave a detailed  illustrated talk on “The Staffordshire Hoard”, the largest discovery of Saxon gold and silver artefacts in Britain, made by an amateur  treasure hunter in a field near Lichfield in July 2009. There are nearly 3500 items , nearly all warlike in character.
David Hill will be the speaker at the next meeting  – his talk “The Crystal Palace”.
